Tolerance Limits for Cold Bending Deformation of Steel Plates

In accordance with European standard EN 10162 for cold formed steel sections, cold bending dimensional control covers bending angle, sectional edge length and camber straightness tolerances. Thicker plates feature wider allowances for springback and forming deformation. Tolerance limits for four common low-carbon steel plate thicknesses are specified below:


1. 1.5 mm thin plate: Edge length ±0.1 mm, bending angle ±0.5°, maximum camber 0.8 mm per metre

2. 4 mm medium-thin plate: Edge length ±0.12 mm, bending angle ±0.8°, maximum camber 1.0 mm per metre

3. 10 mm medium-thick plate: Edge length ±0.18 mm, bending angle ±1.2°, maximum camber 1.3 mm per metre

4. 16 mm thick plate: Edge length ±0.22 mm, bending angle ±1.5°, maximum camber 1.6 mm per metre


Overall longitudinal camber across the full length shall not exceed 0.15% of the total part length. Tolerances for high-strength steel shall be increased by 20%. A critical acceptance criterion is the absence of visible cracks on the outer bending radius surface after cold forming.
